I was spending time outside with my family when we decided to go on (another) family walk. I thought this was a perfect time to start look for a plant, tree, insect or bird for this assignment. As I was looking nothing was standing out, I saw the same trees and shrubs I see every time I walk in my neighborhood. Towards the end of the walk one plant stuck out it was bright and blue right along someone’s fence. It had such a vibrant color and did not look like it belonged on the corner of someone’s fence next to shrubs and dirt. I had never seen this prior to today even though I walk by here almost everyday. I snapped a picture then began to research it. Finding the name of this flower was harder than I thought. I finally found it online for sale at home depot, the name on home depot was “Blue Flowers Dwarf Blue Veronica Live Bareroot Perennial Plants ”. The final consensus after looking at many sites and many flowers is that it is a Blue Perennial Plant. I enjoyed completing this assignment because it showed me something beautiful that I never noticed on my daily walk before. (Eleni LeClair)
Something Bright in All This Darkness
My neighbor has these flowers completely surrounding their fence and I never knew the name of them until now! Their vibrance never failed to capture my attention. This assignment showed me that I really have a lack of knowledge about plants. I often just admire them from afar without much thought. Although there are people like my grandma that seem to be able to identify any plant they see. I have always enjoyed her taking me to gardening stores and sharing her favorite flowers with me. Connecting with nature in this way made it a much more fulfilling experience, Great job, Eleni.

What drew me to your post is your picture– I am almost certain that these are the same flowers I photographed for my post. I also had so much trouble finding the name of the flowers and quite frankly I didn’t, so thank you for your thorough research! I enjoyed hearing that you are able to find new things each time you go for the same walk. It doesn’t surprise me that we both stumbled upon the same flower based on its tendency to stand out. I really enjoyed hearing a different perception of this flower.

I laughed when you said “another walk”, because I think we can all agree that we have been forced on too many walks during this time. What I liked most about this essay is the fact that you have never seen these flowers prior to your walk, because it told a story of how so many beautiful things are unfortunately overlooked but once they are spotted you can never not see them. Great writing and loved the picture!
