I’m lucky that I have two huge cherry trees in my backyard. The prettiest time of the year by far is the two week period in which they bloom and blossom. Looking out my bedroom window I see a storm of pink and red, and I feel lucky I am able to witness such beauty every year. When I read the assignment there was not a doubt in my mind that I was going to take a picture of them and write about them.
Spring is definitely my favorite time of year, even though my allergies always act up. Now, I wake up with a scratchy throat because of all the pollen in the air. Every morning I have a small heart attack that I may have contracted the coronavirus, but after taking my zyrtec this fear vanishes along with my scratchy throat. I find it inspiring that spring hasn’t stopped due to coronavirus. It seems everything in the world has come to an abrupt halt, but spring. Spring hasn’t disappointed either. It has come on quickly and just as beautiful as ever. I think everything from the trees to the sky is enjoying the lack of car pollution. The sky seems as blue as ever, and my beautiful cherry trees seem as happy as ever.
When I see the cherry trees it makes me optimistic and gives me hope. If they can continue through this hard time, so can we. Right now we are waiting to bloom as a society. After this pandemic, we will learn many things and we will blossom just like the buds of a cherry tree. We will continue on just like spring has. Just give it some time, and we will return better than ever.

Hey Max, I really loved reading your story. I specifically wanted to comment on your writing because I saw the picture of your beautiful cherry tree and it really interested me. Your use of imagery like calling the cherry tree “a storm of pink and red”, was especially cool and made your writing super enjoyable to read. Not only was this piece creative but it was also funny and insightful. Your use of humor helped make some of the topics about the coronavirus more lighthearted and less stressful to think about. Great job!

I relate to this piece for sure. I have two big oak trees in my backyard and when you see them start to bloom you know that good weather is coming. The idea that spring is still going on despite all of this stuff is a pretty powerful and uplifting point, and I agree completely that with a little time, society can bloom again like the old days. Hope you’re staying healthy.
