I hear whining outside my door at 7 in the morning
I toss and turn not wanting to get up
Eventually I go to my door with no forewarning
I twist the door knob and bursts through the pup
I slump back into my bed
More exhausted than could be
She jumps up and starts kissing my head
Sometimes I wish she would just flee
After some time she curls into a ball
Slowly calming down and ready to sleep
She cuddles next to me all cute and small
We both fall asleep so quick as if counting sheep
Hours later we both open our eyes
Sprawl all out and let out a yawn
We finally arise
It no longer feels like dawn
Though my dog wakes me up everyday
She is still my best friend
She always knows how to make my day
I’ll be with her until the very end
Hi Grace! I really liked your poem on your 7 am a best friend. I thought it was very descriptive as to what happens in your morning routine with having your dog at your door! Reading your poem I felt as if I was hearing the whining and then seeing that cute adorable face as you open up the door. Your words are really descriptive which I like because it lets the reader think of picturing themself in their heads!

My dog does the same exact thing. I loved how you wrote such a fun and lighthearted poem during this time, it made me smile. I loved how descriptive you were, making it easy as a reader to picture what’s going on.

Grace, I enjoyed this poem a lot! I can definitely relate. Being home most mornings I’m woken up by barking or scratching at my door. Dogs are nice to have in such a dark time. They definitely bring a spark of happiness to our lives! I like the descriptive language you used. I can really imagine the scene. I hope you are doing well! Stay healthy!
