This semester to say the least has kind of been all over the place. I personally feel as if the pandemic yes, is inconvenient, but also came at a time where everyone was finally settling into their college life and routine. Although we had this semester cut short, I still learned a lot of valuable lessons and tips to help me later on down the road in not just in school but in life as well.
One thing I value learning was not to jump to conclusions and create an opinion before giving a situation a chance. I originally was going to postpone taking an english class because I felt overwhelmed from last semester and didn’t think I could handle extra work. Matter of fact this english class became one of my favorite classes where I could freely express ideas and become comfortable in my opinions. I cherish the time I had in the class but still continue to appreciate the opportunity of interacting with my classmates in the class as well.
A tip I learned was time management, this is a big one because at first I was scatterbrained and did not know how to balance everything properly. After going through it, I came back in the spring semester and had my routine down, made time for school, and most importantly made time to make sure I pardoned myself from all of the work. It was hard to accomplish at first but once I had it, it felt great.
The last thing I learned is to accept things for what is rather than what they are not. I realized to ask questions instead of assuming and this goes for all situations, educationally and personally. I learned to ease my annoying flaw of overthinking by distracting myself with the good things life has already given me rather than reliving the past and bringing it into the present.
The semester spent at school, although short lived, I could not appreciate the lessons and tips I have gotten to learn and understand more than I do now. Not only will it help me in times to come but it will help me grow and expand on other problems I have not solved yet.

I completely agree, and can relate to, everything you said, Emilie. I was dreading having to take an english class this semester, since english is usually my least favorite subject, but after only a few classes, it quickly turned out to be my favorite class I have been a part of in quite some time. Unfortunately our time was cut short, but we all have learned and grown so much in the short time we were there.

Hey Emilie!! I knew I wanted to read your piece once I read the title because that one sentence summed up exactly how I feel about this semester. I truly appreciate every laugh, every conversation, every new friendship I made and even every long walk back to north campus. Although our second semester was short I even appreciate what occurred in the short time we were there, I joined a sorority and made many new relationships with girls I wouldn’t ever had known had I not rushed. I too was uneasy about taking English in college because I had taken AP English and college english in high school expecting the credits to transfer only to realize UD makes it mandatory for freshman. So now not only was I worried that I wouldn’t be able to write well enough for a college English professor but I was also annoyed I even had to enroll in the class to begin with. However after the first day I knew that this class would be one of my favorites. I never dreaded coming to class or presenting in class because the vibe in that room was so welcoming and everyone had so many kind things to say. I loved writing for this class because I wanted to hear everyones opinions on my writing and the questions/prompts were ones I wanted to answer. I will always remember this class and I’m actually thankful that it was mandatory. Overall I really related to your piece and it was a good read. Hope all is well and everyone is staying safe and healthy!! – Eleni LeClair

I absolutely loved this piece because of how relatable it was. The very first paragraph when you said, “was finally settling into their college life and routine. ” I immediately was like wow ok that’s me because I felt the exact same when we were told to go home. I had finally found a routine and then it had to be thrown for a loop. I also loved your part about time management because before college I always tried to get time management down but it never worked, and finally with college it came. This was so fun to read!

I really enjoyed this piece. The theme that everybody was just getting settled into college life before Corona hit is spot on and definitely something I related to. Time management was really big for me as well, once I figured out the best ratio of chilling out versus doing work I was really in a good place. My favorite part though was definitely about taking things for what they are, not trying to read into things too much, and asking questions was crucial for me in having a good semester and I found that super relatable. Awesome writing, hope everything is good with you.
