Dear Mom,
I have never been so flattered to be the “carbon copy” version of you. The courage, braveness, and strength that you have shown not only to me but to everyone, even those who do not even know you.
To be working on the front lines during this outrageous event is nothing less than scary. Scary to you, to our family, and to those who you take care of almost every single day. I have said thank you but I know you deserve more than that because of the fight you’re putting up everytime you leave home and into the hospital, a place that used to be so safe which has now become one of the most dangerous places to be. Everyone is praying for your safety and thanking you for your hardest work.
To see you come home every morning after working 12 hours overnight, after seeing multiple patients and colleagues pass due to the virus, after dealing with the nonstop stress of work, you always come home with a smile. I am so proud of you and all you are doing. Everyone acknowledges this hard work of yours and thanks you.
I love you,
Emilie

Emilie, this is a beautiful letter. My favorite line is the very first one “I have never been so flattered to be the ‘carbon copy’ version of you.” I think it’s a wonderful compliment to your mom. Her efforts every night at the hospital are not going unrecognized by your family or mine. She is being a hero during this tough time and I am so grateful for her and all of the medical professionals. Thank her and give her a big hug for me!

Emilie, this is such a powerful story. Your mom is truly a hero for doing what she does. Times are not easy right now and people like your mom are risking their lives everyday to try and make a positive change. I know that must take a lot of strength for her to not let the severity of the situation weigh on her as well. I’m glad your proud of what she’s doing and I’m sure if you’re her “carbon copy” you’ll also do amazing things. I hope you and your mom stay safe!

Hey Emilie!! Id like to start by saying please tell your mom thank you for everything she is doing. I loved your piece and I can truly tell how grateful you are to have a mom like yours. I am currently in school to be a nurse and if I were one in times like these I would be terrified. Nurses who are moms stand out to me because after their long shifts their day isn’t done they come home trade in the scrubs and put on their mom hat and start their other job. I know sometimes as kids we forget that all the extra things our parents do for us are a gift and not something we should just expect. I can tell how much you appreciate and love your mom. Hope all is well and everyone in your family is healthy and safe! (Eleni LeClair)
