Blossoming flowers pretty in white and pink
This catches my attention
Makes me stop and think
Something so beautiful, with all of the chaos around you
How you stand so tall, higher with each branch
Pleasing to see, when I’ve been feeling so blue
Planted in a front yard
Draping slightly over the sidewalk
Beauty and confidence made clear, why for me is that so hard?
It is spring and your time came to bloom
Show your elegance to all
Sit and ponder my thoughts in my room
You may be just a plant
But everyone appreciates your beauty
People appreciate mine too, all the time in my mind though, I can’t
The little things go a long way
As right now times are unusual
Nice weather and a pretty tree can make anyone’s day
I recognize the beauty and growing nature of the environment around me
Giving us a reminder that we will grow and move forward
A blossoming, confident beauty is the tree, also something I know I can be

Toni, this poem was very relatable. With not much to do anymore, I often find myself on numerous walks a day, admiring the blossoming flowers on all the trees around me. The line “Giving us all a reminder that we will grow and move forward” really stuck out to me in a time we are living in now. We have to appreciate the little things in order to see a bigger picture.

Toni, I loved this poem. I admired how you related human lives to the life of plants and flowers. I enjoyed the line, “Something so beautiful, with all of the chaos around you.” The world is in a crazy time right now, but that doesn’t halt everything. The trees and flowers will still bloom and change into their spring uniform. While I walk my dog around my neighborhood, I notice how beautiful our world is. Humans have been our environment’s destruction, and to stop in place for a little has changed so much. We will continue our life in this quarantine and grow after.

I’m not going to lie, I always look for your posts. I love your voice and the way that every single time I finish reading one of your pieces, I find myself reflecting on my own life. This piece was no different from the rest: wonderfully structured, thought-provoking, carefully worded, and a delight to read. Thank you :). I specifically loved the line “Something so beautiful, with all of the chaos around you,” as Molly mentioned above. I like how you were candid about not being able to find that confidence right now, because I know I myself have been feeling that at times recently. It’s hard to feel like we have purpose right now in such confusing times, or to plan for the future, because who knows what that’ll even look like. But then you bring it back around; you will be that strong, confident tree standing tall. Knowing that is enough. There aren’t a lot of things that can be said with certainty right now, but as long as you can promise yourself you will be better, and you will not lose hope, that is as much as one can ask for.
