Waking up to the sound of your mom not being able to breath
Something I’ll never forget
Walking past my dad’s office to hear him crying on the phone
Something I’ll never forget
This virus has brought sadness to many families including mine
Time with family should never be taken lightly
Hug your family
Hug your friends
Hug your pets
Recovery is hard
My mom will overcome this
And so will my family
But some don’t get the chance so
Stay home and hug your family

Sarah, I am so sorry to hear you are being directly impacted by this. My uncle is recovering in the ICU intubated and on a ventilator with failing organs. He very slowly making progress in critical condition. I understand this is hard for so many but you just have to think positively and keep a good mindset.
I appreciate the simple format of your writing and use of repetition with phrases such as, “something I’ll never forget” and consecutive phrases repeating the word “hug.” This allows for emphasis on the point of your writing and the need, not to take things lightly in this situation, but rather take things with appreciation rather than for granted.
I wish your mother a quick recovery, and wish for you and your family to remain positive and stay healthy.

I am very sorry to hear about your mom and I hope her recovery gets better each day. I enjoyed the style of your poem, and your emphasis on how, “time and family should not be taken lightly”. Your situation really shows that this virus is real and how it is affecting countless people. This was a very powerful poem that really caused me to reflect again on how people are being affected, and it hurts to imagine going through what you have been experiencing. Thank you for sharing.
