Coronavirus Brings only questions and fear That afflicts our world Disastrous in nature The pain it has caused us How can we stop it? Social distancing It takes our humanity And we yearn to feel Though its not easy Patience will lead us forward To happier days - Austin Waldron
Corona Haiku
I think this Haiku is extremely relatable and eye opening. Every person in the world is dealing with this right now, and so many people just don’t want to social distance because they feel it won’t make a difference. We all need to learn to be patient and if we can all do that, then the last line of your haiku will eventually come true hopefully sooner than later.

I really like haikus and I like how yours is set up with multiple stanzas. I like that it flows really well and moves from the effect of coronavirus on our lives and moves to a more positive note to end. I hope everyone can be patient like you said and stay inside so we can all get past this.

Austin, you killed this. When I think of Haiku I usually don’t think of a poem that has much meaning. More something that is fun and a good time to read. However, the one you wrote is relatable and portrays what much of the world is thinking. I like how you end on a optimistic note. Patience is key, and we all can have hope that life will return to normal soon. Hope you are doing well.

Austin, I really liked how you approached the poem assignment with a Haiku! I especially liked the lines “social distancing/it takes away our humanity/and we yearn to feel”. I think that is the epitome of how I’ve been feeling these past few weeks just simmered down. It’s crazy how hard it’s been trying to adjust to all these new aspects of life but the biggest thing for me has been getting used to not seeing friends or my boyfriend because any chance I’d get to see them I’d go out. I’m hoping all of this is over soon and hopefully in 10 years we can look back and make a few jokes about it.

Heyy Austin!! I really was shocked at how profound your piece was considering its length. You managed to fit ideas that some couldn’t write in 1000 words into 12 short lines. I definitely agree that social distance has taken away our humanity. Corona has caused pain, suffering and has affected all of us and I think everyone is just ready for it to be over and done with. Your last line gave me a sense of hope and I’m hoping this comes true sooner rather than later. Thanks for sharing your piece. Hope all is well!! – Eleni LeClair
