I’m doing well. I’m back into the routine which I love cause I hate not being on a schedule. I don’t have to eat at the dining hall anymore, which is probably the best thing about this whole situation, and I love being around my dogs. As I focus on the positive effects that have come back into my life the bad things of this whole situation fade away. My family has gotten closer but also a lot of arguments have occurred and all my tests are open note so my GPA is looking hopeful. I could focus on the fact I’m not in Delaware or I can’t go out with my hometown friends but the day will come again for all of that to happen. But these changes have brought a lot of sadness among the world, especially here in New York.
Since my mom works in the Emergency Room I have a whole new appreciation for her job. She’s a ward secretary, she may not be directly helping the patients that are suffering from coronavirus but she is there at 7am every morning to help the doctors and nurses get their jobs done. Every person working in hospitals all over the world is risking their health and safety for others. As I’m seeing this first hand it has shown me how much I really want to one day work in the medical field and be able to help people in need.
This whole experience is new to all of us and I think if we make the most of it and STAY HOME, that one day we’ll look back to see the positive it brought into our lives. I mourn those who have lost their life to this tragic disease and look forward to the day that the coronavirus vaccine will just be another day at the doctor for our kids.

I like how in a somewhat shorter piece you were able to get a lot across to the reader. It’s great that you admire your mom so much for what she does and that’s part of the reason you want to go into that field as well. I hope her and her coworkers stay safe during all this. Also, I really like how you end on the note of thinking far into the future about your kids getting a vaccine for coronavirus, it helps to put this situation into perspective since other pandemics and outbreaks have led to mandatory vaccines in the US and hopefully soon we’ll have a way to make it to the ending you wrote.

Hi Sarah. I am so grateful for people like your mom. Everyone in the medical world right now is putting their own lives on the line in order to help others. It truly is amazing. As someone who wants to be a doctor, I wish I was a couple years older. They are pulling kids from medical school early and placing them on the front lines because of the lack of doctors. I love how you are being optimistic about this whole thing. I am trying to do the same. There is a lot to gain out of a situation like this. We can learn from it and assure it does not happen again at this scale. The medical world is going to advance significantly because of this. Even the environment is benefiting from this because of the lack of pollution. I agree with you. We have to stay positive and life will return to normal some day soon.

Hey Sarah,
The best part of your piece to me was undoubtedly your lighthearted flow and your optimism about this whole thing. I most definitely can relate to being happy about open-note tests, and I could not agree more that everybody needs to STAY HOME. I also wish good health to your mom. Without a doubt, people in the medical field are keeping our country afloat right now and I hope after this situation is over we have an increased appreciation for what all health workers do. Good luck and stay healthy.
