I am always a happy person, well depending on my mood I should actually say. Writing in ENGL110 is actually entertaining to me because I get to express how I feel about a certain idea we are talking about and also get to share my viewpoints through styles of writing. Okay now onto the assignment,

When given this assignment I immediately texted my friends saying “I need to ask you guys questions for honest answers for an assignment.” My friends and I are very busy people and with all the school work, and extracurricular activities I thought texting them a few questions would be easier instead of hunting them down. After class, I began to think of some questions I can ask that are relevant to the topics of mental and/or physical health. Then I was thinking what if I did a short and sweet type of question, like one word. I knew if I was on the side of being interviewed I would not want to answer questions that took long. So I began texting my friend… When I sent this text to some of my friends they were very confused at first. Thinking about what this task Lexi is given. Thankfully they answered all my questions perfectly to help me gather information for this assignment.

The first question I came to think of was, “if you had to describe mental health in one word what would it be.” Some words I got from my friends for this question were “good, important, and serious”. Even though I asked for one-worded answers, one word can explain so many things.

First, let me start you off with what mental health is. The definition of mental health, in my own words, is being at a state where you are happy with life. However nobody is ever perfectly happy, there is always a little stress in everyone. These one-word ideas of what mental health is described as is powerful. Mental health can either be looked at with a positive or negative outlook. It is a very serious topic that when thinking of can not be in a joking matter. My friends, I asked this question to are speaking from a state where their mental health is at a stable place where everything is a happy medium in life. If I was to ask someone that was not in a happy place in life some of the answers vary. Many of my friends that I questioned additionally agree that “your mental health is important.” These little words I find to be very important and extremely factual.

I then went on to ask my few friends the question of what they would call their safe place in a time of stress and worry. Everyone I know said their dorm or if they are home their bedroom. I completely agree with this idea. Your room is a nice place where you can express all your emotions and let yourself scream if you need to, or cry if it’s necessary. However, they all did say even though your room is a safe place a general consensus was that if you are in serious need of help you either call a friend, parent or head to Perkins. Perkins is where the counseling center is.

I focused my writing on the idea of mental health because having balanced mental health is important especially for a college student. We, in college especially, experience multiple types of stress and need to know how to handle all different forms of stress. Some strategies might be to come to your room and relax or to go to the counseling center or to call your parent or to even talk to a friend. I attached a picture of my bed to show that when I am stressed I come to my dorm and take a nap and listen to calm peaceful music.
