One 15-minute break from technology today made me realize how much time I have wasted on my phone and laptop instead of living in the moment. In high school I was always occupied by having class 7 hours a day, 2 hours of soccer practice, and varying hours of homework every day. I did not have much time to be on my phone. Ever since college started in the fall, I have noticed a drastic increase of the screen time on my phone.

With long gaps between my classes, I found myself sitting in my room and being on my phone rather than doing something useful such as homework, studying, or going to the gym. Even when I would hang out with my friends, my phone would be right next to me face up so I can see every notification I receive. During these 15 minutes without my phone, I have decided I need to make a change.

In order to cut down on my screen time, I am going to put time restrictions on all of my social media apps. By doing this, I will not be tempted to be on my phone while I am with my friends and I will not be going on my phone when I should be doing homework. These 15 minutes of reflection really opened my eyes. College is supposed to be the best four years of my life, and I do not want all of my memories to consist of me on my phone. This semester I am ready to make new memories with no phone in sight.
