T: First impressions may appear difficult, but within the first few minutes of meeting Molly, I could tell she was a super down to earth, friendly girl. Within the first few minutes, I was able to learn that, she majors in business undecided, plans on rushing for a sorority and her favorite colors are pink and grey because she can’t choose between them. After the first few trivial facts she shared with me, I still didn’t have much of an idea about what her genuine personality was like. Then she asked, “Do you want to hear a story about my stalker ex?”
Molly then proceeded to share all the creepy details regarding her ex-boyfriend. Not only is she a great storyteller but by listening to her stories, I gathered a lot of information about her. She kept her composure so well through a stressful situation, allowing me to see her strength. To add on, her ability in sharing her experience shows her openness and honesty.
She loves sharing stories about her life and has an extremely fun and bubbly personality. She has a great relationship with her floor for, probably, that exact reason. Through the process of storytelling, I learned so much about her personality and life that I never would have gathered from first glance.
E: Whenever you meet someone new, there is always that initial feeling of discomfort. The question is, when does that discomfort go away? For me, the answer is never. It doesn’t disappear but it lightens with time. When I first met Tess a few days ago, I knew right off the bat that she was someone worth getting to know. Someone who enjoyed being in the company of others. She wasn’t afraid to break through the initial fear of getting to know someone and made you feel comfortable. During the first few moments of conversing I learned that we were actually in the same major last semester before she switched out into psychology. We had a lot in common such as our struggles with chemistry and our agreement when talking about how we didn’t want to rush a sorority because we both found it too much high energy and pep. After these breakthroughs, I found that talking to Tess was enjoyable because of what a nice person she truly is. She listened when I spoke to understand, not just to respond which is a trait hard to find. This compelled me to understand who she was as a person and to know how openly lighthearted and warm she is.
Not only is Tess sweet but she is funny as well. She proceeded to tell Molly and I jokes to break the ice but also continued to laugh at ours which showed her genuinity. Listening to all she had to say was also really interesting because you don’t regularly realize on a day to day basis how much in common you might with other people you wouldn’t get to know until a project like this comes up. From here on out I can honestly say that i’m so glad I met Tess and got to know her through her stories instead of assuming based on first glance.
M: Meeting new people throughout our lives can help us to grow, experience new things and obtain the information we otherwise may not have the opportunity to.
At first impression, Emilie seemed like a shy but smart girl. As we got to talk more, she began to show her true self. She is indeed very smart but was not shy towards Tess and me. She actually has a very outgoing personality.
Emilie is a pre-Vet major, who currently lives in South Academy on campus at UD. She was very friendly and easy to talk to. She told me that she lives in Staten Island, New York, which isn’t far from where I live. We got on the topic of shopping, and she proceeded to tell me that she has a tendency to spend all of her money at the mall.
Emilie’s plans involve becoming a veterinarian, and I think this suits her very well because she seems very caring and open with her opinions. She is a people person, enjoys meeting new people and is a great listener. As we were talking about this presentation, I could tell she is also very organized. She doesn’t procrastinate, and would rather get things done sooner than later.
I’m glad I had the opportunity through this assignment to get to know Emilie, and wish her luck in her path to becoming a successful veterinarian.
