1. Some of us in this room may already know each other, and some of us may not even know who the person is sitting next to us. We live in a world with over seven billion people, and we will never get a chance to know every individual, but we will get the chance to know some. Sarah Flood grew up in Long Island, New York, with a love for dance, an activity that allowed her to compete, dance in high school not only as a member but eventually a captain her senior year, and even join our very own Delaware Dance Team. She admires the music and character of her favorite UK artist Lewis Capaldi. While Sarah may not know what Pork Roll or Taylor Ham is, that does not compare to her recent winter break travels both to Japan and the Philippines. Similarly to me, Sarah is an exercise science major, and as an individual she hopes to have a career as a Physicians Assistant, chiropractor, or as something in dance movement therapy. Sarah fell in love with the University of Delaware both for its beautiful campus and of course credibility for health science studies. With her older brother, friends and family, and positive attitude, I am sure Sarah will be able to fulfill her goals. It was a pleasure getting to know Sarah and I hope I get to know more of you as well.

2. I had the pleasure of getting to know Toni Abdy. She was born in Clifton, New Jersey but at the young age of two she moved to Point Pleasant Beach, New Jersey with her family. Toni is the oldest of three siblings with a younger brother and sister. We found common ground in the fact that we both grew up in New Jersey, unfortunately Toni believes it is pork roll when in reality it is Taylor ham and believes there is a central jersey not simply a north and south jersey. When she was six years old Toni began playing soccer and quickly fell in love with the sport. Although there were a few moments of adversity, including a broken nose, some bruised ribs, a sprained wrist, and a sprained shoulder she persevered. In high school she played all four years on the varsity team as a goalie and in her senior year her hard work paid off when she was voted team captain. While discussing our favorite tv shows I learned her favorite show is That 70s Show and she has an interest in documentaries. She recently watched the Aaron Hernandez documentary and would highly recommend it to everyone. I loved getting to know more about  Toni throughout this semester and hopefully many more people in this class.

I had the pleasure of getting to know Riya Moorthy. Riya is from Mahwah, New Jersey and according to her “Central Jersey” does not exist and it’s not a Pork Roll it’s a Taylor Ham. Riya grew up on the softball field as a catcher, but along with that she also enjoyed dancing ballet. She enjoys listening to country music and even got the opportunity to attend a Justin Moore concert right here on campus. When Riya isn’t studying, you can find her most likely watching Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Just like me, Riya is an Exercise Science major on track to a career as a Physical Therapist. Other than just relaxing over winter break, Riya got to travel to Puerto Rico as a part of the Blue Hen Leadership Program to help those who have suffered from the hurricanes that have occurred the past 2 years. Some of us dream to travel the world, but not Riya she has been to 41 countries in just 18 years! Even though she has been pretty much everywhere, Riya plans on studying abroad in Australia her junior year. From skydiving to traveling the world Riya always is looking to her next adventure. I enjoyed getting to know Riya and hopefully one day visit 41 countries just like her.
